Job Requirements:

  • Consultant must have at least 4 years of professional experience creating data-driven applications that leverage the .NET framework, preferably with C# & .NET 2.0 and beyond
  • Have the ability to read and write code that leverages complex OO concepts as well as design patterns
  • Know JavaScript (and/or JS frameworks) well enough to create reusable code that creates a rich user-experience (E.g., AJAX, DOM Manipulation, etc.)
  • Take pride in database-design and writing SQL/T-SQL that performs optimally
  • Have the ability to communicate complex concepts in a concise manner to both technical and non-technical staff
  • Are not afraid to propose solutions that challenge the status quo
  • Enjoy designing software that performs and scales well
  • Have a B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent work experience

Cognos BI Planning

Location               : Pleasanton, CA
Duration               : 6+ months
Client                    : Kaiser Permanente

 Essential Functions:

The Cognos Business Intelligence Solution Design Consultant is responsible for providing guidance and expertise in the design, development and implementation of business intelligence  and enterprise planning capabilities with emphasis on products offered by IBM/Cognos.  The Solution Design Consultant will partner with both business clients and technical team members to define and evaluate business requirements, assess internal capabilities across all analytics tools available within the organization, recommend appropriate solutions and serve in a key technical capacity throughout the design, development and implementation cycle.  Heavy emphasis for this position is placed on the maintenance of the Cognos shared services business intelligence and enterprise planning platform.

BI & EP Development

  • Analyst model development  
  • Report Studio Reports development
  • OLAP Cubes Development
  • Framework Manager Model development

Product Installation and Configuration

  • Based on the business requirements, recommend a scalable architecture
  • Perform initial product installs
  • Configure different software components for EP (Cognos 8.xx) and BI ( Cognos 8.xx)
  • Implement LDAP / Access Manager Security solutions
  • Document the implementation steps
  • Recommend development, test and production environments and migration procedures.

Application Migrations

  • Design and develop application migration strategy
  • Execute dry runs and test migration
  • Prepare for production migration
  • Execute migration procedures and steps
  • Final implementation

Production Support (for both Cognos EP and BI )

  • Manage contributor applications
  • Develop, implement and monitor routine processes such as GTP, admin links, contributor macros etc
  • Monitor daily data load procedures
  • Configure and Implement publish containers
  • Manage security ( access tables, user rights ), e-List, jobs etc
  • Develop and maintain batch scripts to automate daily maintenance tasks
  • Performs daily production support activities for both EP and BI issues
  • Migrates EP models, CAC configurations and BI content from Development to Test to Production
  • Performs routine maintenance tasks including environment recycling, s/w patches and other configurations.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required with emphasis in computer sciences or engineering discipline, business, or related field
  • At least six years of proven solution design experience for reporting, business intelligence, analytics and decision support across a broad spectrum of healthcare related activities including care delivery, human resources, supply chain, revenue cycle, claims and others.  6 or more years direct experience with Analyst modeling, Contributor, FM and all studios.
  • Sound business knowledge and ability to discuss modeling in business terms with the users
  • Design and development of data warehouse, reporting, business intelligence and decision support systems.
  • Experience with standard business intelligence and analytics tools such as Business Objects, Cognos and SAS, databases such as Oracle and Teradata and ETL tools such as Informatica.
  • Technical competency in understanding technical systems, with conceptual understanding of various components, and ability to understand technically what & why, while engaging both sides of the spectrum - business/architects on one hand, and engineers/support staff on the other
  • Excellent solution evaluation and design, problem resolution and data analysis skills.
  • Must be able to simultaneously manage multiple IT projects and support a number of customers/internal clients
  • Must be able to present in a simplified, understandable and meaningful way to upper management, peers and business clients.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, including:
       - Effective meeting management
       - Prepare and present (PowerPoint/Visio)
       - Documentation templates for various procedures when needed
  • This position requires traveling up to 15%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Significant expertise and experience in deploying Cognos Business Intelligence and Cognos Planning appliations.
  • Methodology or training certifications in relevant discipline or tool including data warehousing, Cognos certification preferred.
  • Experience working in a matrix environment preferred, and/or prior experience managing people
  • Strong Consulting experience in a healthcare setting

SQL/BI Consultant

Location              : Novato, CA
Duration              : 1 Year  
Client                    : Pacific Pulmonary

This is a req. for a SQL/BI consultant!    Long term consultant on site n the North Bay (Navato)   Consultant will be doing BI Road mapping, this consultant will be working with the Financial department developing the infrastructure for BI!

Business analysis: This person will meet with PPS users to understand and document business requirements. The person must be able to lead the meeting and direct the conversations towards identifying requirements. The person must then organize and document the requirements in a format that could be understood by both business and IT.

Requirements Gathering: The consultant should be able to trace what was identified in the requirement back to the source systems. He/she needs to be able to communicate to IT SMEs and construct the necessary data model and column mappings from source and destination systems.

 ETL Development: This person then needs to create the SSIS packages necessary to extract, format and load the data from the various source systems into the new data model. This person will verify the data accuracy and compatibility with the source system.

 Cube Development: The consultant should also be able to build the cube(s) using SSAS. The cubes will be tuned to allow users to easily access the data using front end tools, including Excel.

Reports Development: Optional this person should have experience of integrating reports, SSRS & Excel services, into SharePoint.

Analytics and Dashboards: Optional also is the knowledge and the ability to work with of 3rd party software that integrates with SSAS and be able to provide training and mentoring to IT and business users on the use of these tool.
